Flyway Mutual Insurance Company stretches back to March 13, 1874, when the company was organized under the original title of Waupun Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Company. Fond du Lac, Dodge, & Green Lake were the first counties in which the company was active. At a meeting held in Waupun on the 12th day of June 1874, a motion was carried that the company should begin business from that date forward, since over one hundred thousand dollars of insurance had been applied for. Thus begins our great insurance company.
The company wrote fire insurance for many years, but then in 1969, a bill was passed that also allowed mutuals to write liability insurance. This was the start of the Package polices, which offered both liability and property protection.
From then on our little company grew! In 1971, Waupun Farmers Mutual and Ripon Town Mutual Insurance Company met, and it was decided that Ripon would merge with Waupun Farmers Mutual. It was most effective, and the Waupun-Ripon merger was successfully completed in 1972.
A November 1974 meeting between the now Waupun-Ripon Mutual and Town of Trenton Mutual resulted in yet another merger. And with that we became Waupun-Ripon-Trenton Mutual Insurance Company.
In March of 1983, the name of the Corporation was changed to Flyway Mutual Insurance Company, as we are known today. One last merger with Beaver Dam-Woodland-Burnett took place in 1987, and during this merger we took on several new agents as well as board members.
